This antique chest from France, crafted in solid walnut, features a softly curved serpentine body which houses three drawers which are exquisitely carved with an abundance of Rococo foliate ornament, featuring scrolling acanthus leaves, flowering vines, and intricately modeled botanical motifs arranged around shaped cartouches with elaborate Rococo pulls and central escutcheons, creating a richly textured and visually harmonious façade. A shaped apron centered with a decorative bronze mount enhances the refined silhouette, with swagged carvings continuing at each side. This piece is presented on petite cabriole-style feet. The walnut has been lightened, and a custom contrasting painted highlight outlines the lines and accentuates the depth of the relief work. The wood exhibiting beautiful age, wear, and patina consistent with centuries of use.
