The composition depicts two elegantly … Read more A beautifully detailed late-19th-century French gilt-bronze figural group attributed to Adrien Étienne Gaudez (French, 1845–1902). The composition depicts two elegantly draped classical female figures representing the arts, one holding and playing a stringed instrument, surrounded by additional artistic and musical attributes, including an artist’s music sheet.

The figures are exceptionally well modeled, with elaborate folds of drapery, finely articulated facial features and richly textured groundwork. The warm gilt-bronze surface retains areas of darker patination that emphasize the sculptural detail.

Raised on its original-looking shaped black plinth.
