Salvatore Fiume, Italian (1915-1997), double-hinged folding screen, 1954. Four-panel screen; each panel measures 18" by 67 1/4" tall. Painted on wood panel on both sides, framed in thin wood molding. Signed and date lower right corner of the front. Fabulous Mid-Century Surrealist Fantasy of faceless men in robes populating an idealistic landscape under a sky of drifting hot air balloons. A tonal construction of space by volumes of color to present a light-filled plaza and city beyond, solitary figures look on.
Signed S. Fiume to the lower right corrner of the scene.
