A large and elegant Federal Wall Mirror dating from c.1840. The two-section Mirror is framed by sections of beautifully carved gilt rope molding. A distinctive feature is that these sections are not exactly identical, although they appear so at first glance. They are slightly longer on one side than another, indicating a craftsman’s unique hand.
Another distinctive feature of the mirror at the blocks at all four corners, which are decorated with Star motifs. It has all its original gold, mirror plates and back.
The mirror is a striking addition to a dining or living room or hallway. We acquired it in Cooperstown, NY nearly 40 years ago and assume that it was made for one of the several historical homes in the Village. It is a truly authentic and elegant country piece that draws attention in any setting.
The Mirror is quite heavy and should be moved with care. We encourage New York City area buyers.

There is some wear on the surface in places but that seems ia function of the age of the piece, rather than a flaw. There is clouding of the upper mirror section and there are light scuffy areas on the decorative giltwood frame. Finally, there is a little nick in the gilt surface in the corner of one star-motif block.” less
