An extraordinary example of early 20th-century French luxury, this Art Deco sterling silver and cut crystal vanity set radiates timeless elegance and impeccable craftsmanship. Comprising four beautifully cut crystal bottles, a coordinating box, and a single lid, each piece is adorned with finely crafted sterling silver collars and lids, showcasing a striking engine-turned radiating pattern — a hallmark of refined Art Deco design. The sides are fluted and each of the bottoms has a starburst design.
The three cologne bottles are fitted with faceted crystal stoppers and feature gold wash interiors on their collars, preserving the original touch of opulence. The fourth, taller bottle is equally graceful, while the box and lid complete the ensemble with coordinating silverwork and luxurious gold-washed interiors. Each lid is engraved with a stylized Art Deco monogram, "JGE," adding a personal and historic touch to this elegant set. One might be tempted to believe it was specially made for Jay Gatsby, Esquire himself. It’s a set worthy of the man behind the mystery: a reflection of the excess, elegance, and unspoken secrets of the Jazz Age.
Every piece bears the French Minerva hallmark with a '1' at her forehead, indicating first standard (.950) silver, along with the maker’s mark “E P”.
