This American Arts and Crafts style humidor features an elegant barrel-shaped design with sterling silver accents and meticulous craftsmanship. The humidor's body is encircled by ribbed sterling silver bands, adding texture and sophistication to the rich, warm tone of the copper base. It also features a prominent union shield applied to the front, engraved with the date "May 16th, 1902" and the initials "RHS" in a stylish monogram, underscoring the personalized, historical significance of the piece.
Copper ring handles are affixed to the body via sterling silver mounts, harmonizing with the overall aesthetic. The domed lid, capped with a sterling silver finial handle, houses a sponge cage inside to maintain humidity for tobacco storage, which speaks to the humidor’s functionality. The interior of the jar is silver-plated, ensuring the preservation of its contents.
Measuring 5 3/4 inches in height and 4 1/2 inches in diameter, the humidor weighs 732 grams (23.5 troy ounces). The piece remains in excellent condition, with only minor surface bumps from typical use. The soft, original patina has been preserved, with no signs of buffing or machine polishing, allowing the natural aging to contribute to its antique charm. Please review photos for further condition assessment.
The craftsmanship, originality, and detailed engraving, combined with its pristine condition, make this humidor an exceptional example of American Arts and Crafts design, ideal for collectors of tobacciana or historical metalwork.
