The sweeping bow wraps around the back and sides to form the arms, while a secondary curved rail and slender spindles create the distinctive open framework.

Turned arm supports, vase-and-ring turned legs and an extensive stretcher system add both visual detail and stability. At 52 inches wide, the settee offers comfortable seating for two while remaining an easy size for an entry hall, living room, library, bedroom or dining area.

JUNE'S THOUGHTS
I was impressed by the quality of this settee the moment I looked closely at its construction. This is not simply a furniture-factory bench made to look like a Windsor. The thick poplar seat is shaped from a single plank, the legs and substantial stretcher system are properly turned, and harder woods like maple appear to have been selected for the structural elements. The beautifully sweeping continuous bow would traditionally require a flexible hardwood such as ash or hickory to achieve that bend.

It is a thoughtful interpretation of traditional Windsor construction, with a surprising amount of workmanship beneath its seemingly simple form. Add the graceful silhouette, rich color and very useful 52-inch size and, really, what more can I say? It’s a great bench.
