Chinese monochrome brick -red glazed ceramic vessel, designed with a squat, globular body and two small loop or lug handles flanking the short mouth rim and an oxblood (sang de bœuf) style glaze with characteristic pooling and lighter rim accents.
The markings on the underside reveal that this vessel is a piece of Western modern studio art pottery rather than an antique Chinese import. Traditional Chinese oxblood porcelains from the Qing dynasty feature smooth white porcelain bases, or unglazed biscuit foot-rims, often featuring painted underglaze blue reign marks.
