Antique rimmed soup bowls by the Limoges factory (often used for soups, pastas, or stews) featuring an intricate, repeating gold filigree chevron/swag pattern along the inner rim, flanked by a solid gold-gilt trim on the outer scalloped edge as well as the inner edge of the rim. Like many Limoges patterns from the late 19th century, it has been designated by a factory pattern number rather than a formal name. Set of 7, these were purchased at the New York store, Bergdorf Goodman and retains their original label on each.
backstamp belongs to R. Delinières & Cie, a highly regarded antique French porcelain manufacturer operating in Limoges, France, and dates precisely between 1894 and 1900.Decoding the MarksThe Red Overglaze Script Stamp (R. Delinières & Cie / Limoges): This is the decorator's mark. It indicates that the porcelain piece was hand-gilded within the internal decorating studio of the Delinières factory. The Green Underglaze Stamp (D & C / FRANCE): This is the manufacturer's "whiteware" or factory blank mark (D & C stands for Delinières & Company). It was stamped directly onto the raw porcelain body before glazing and firing, confirming the piece was cast and produced in their facility.
The history of this hallmark is tightly bound to another iconic porcelain name, Bernardaud:1863: The factory was originally founded by Rémi Delinières on what is now Albert-Thomas Avenue in Limoges.1895: Léonard Bernardaud partnered with Delinières, forming the joint company R. Delinières & Cie (which matches the exact wording on your item).1900: The original partnership was formally dissolved, and the factory re-emerged as L. Bernardaud & Cie, retiring this specific backstamp forever.
