Crafted from solid oak and now presented in a beautifully stripped finish, it reveals the strength of the timber, the hand of the cabinetmaker, and the graceful rhythm of its sculptural form.
The crown immediately sets the character of the piece. A beautifully carved central cartouche rises into an elegantly shaped pediment, flowing outward through a succession of molded curves that give the upper case a distinctly architectural quality. The paneled doors below continue that movement with shaped moldings that echo the crown and create a sense of harmony from top to bottom.
The lower case brings even greater fluidity to the composition. Broad rounded drawer fronts sweep gently across the façade, framed by sculpted side supports and a deeply shaped apron that gives the base a wonderful sense of movement. The carved claw feet are particularly striking, lending the piece both refinement and character while completing the silhouette with the kind of detail that distinguishes fine 18th century craftsmanship.
Equally important is the extraordinary original hardware, beautifully preserved after more than two centuries.
