A magnificent, large, polychrome, vitrified hard-paste porcelain vase with an exceptionally dramatic impact. It features two sculptural cherub-tritons holding a bold double-sided bowl embellished with a cascade of roses and lilies of the valley. Made in the late 19th century, it is signed under the base with the Richard Eckert & Co. manufactory mark, part of the historic Rudolstadt-Volkstedt porcelain production in Thuringia, Germany. This superb and monumental ceremonial vase is a masterful testament to the technical prowess achieved by the manufacturer, whose refined production is attributed to the presence of the characteristic cobalt blue underglaze mark featuring crossed swords with a modified hilt, which allows for a precise dating to the period between 1890 and 1898 (as illustrated in the last photo, pages taken from one of our volumes in French, with historical notes on the manufacturer and the same mark present under the base of our vase, precisely the second, number 55, page at the bottom right). The exceptional nature of this piece, imposing in its generous dimensions of 31.5 centimeters in height by 24.5 centimeters in width, lies in its bold structural and sculptural design, markedly eclectic and neo-Baroque in nature. The upper section, perfectly designed for double-sided viewing as a sumptuous centerpiece, opens laterally with dramatic cornucopia-like beaks and culminates in a large, ribbed circular handle. The sculptural base is supported by two splendid mirror-image figures of cherub-tritons with scaly tails shaded in silvery gray, perched on a rock of bright green acanthus leaves. The central body is entirely enveloped in an exuberant botanical display handcrafted using the complex barbotine technique, featuring delicate, three-dimensional branches of lily of the valley suspended in mid-air, alternating with ceramic moss inserts and culminating in a small central tulip-bud chalice. An antique and highly significant vase for art lovers and collectors.
