A metamorphic cocktail cabinet, circa 1950s-60s, bearing the retailer's label of Cox & Cox Ltd, The Furnishing Store, Burnham-on-Sea and Winscombe, Somerset. The maker is unrecorded; Cox & Cox is understood to have been the retailer. Closed, it reads as a plain cabinet with book-matched figured walnut fall panels above straight-grained veneered doors and sides, on slender tapered legs joined by a stretcher frame.
A brass pull on the top releases the mechanism: the lid rises and the two figured panels swing outward, opening the fitted bar. The curved compartment holds a glass shelf on a mirrored back panel above a black and gold striped glass serving base, with a wipeable laminate preparation surface above. Two banks of original cocktail sticks - three green, three yellow - sit in their metal fittings either side of the interior. The double-door cupboard below provides storage for bottles and glassware.
