This wonderfully whimsical mid-century piece is hand-painted with oversized pink roses, deep green foliage, colorful leaves, and a mottled green ground.
The mother pig features an especially expressive face with large hand-painted eyes and delicate eyelashes, while each of the seven piglets has its own sweet, individually painted expression. The sculptural arrangement gives the piece visual interest from virtually every angle.
The cream-colored glazed ceramic displays extensive fine overall crazing consistent with age, adding wonderful character and texture to the surface. The underside bears a small hand-painted red decorator’s or workshop mark. Maker is otherwise unidentified.
