The sculptural figure features an animated face with large eyes and a whimsical single tooth, a curled mane and tail, decorative collar, and one paw resting atop a traditional ball representing the world.

The loose cobalt-blue brushwork gives the piece an appealing handmade quality and plenty of personality. The hollow porcelain figure rests on a fitted dark-stained octagonal wood display stand with Ming style feet which complements the blue-and-white porcelain beautifully.

Dating to the late 20th century, likely circa 1970s–1990s, this decorative guardian lion works beautifully as a standalone sculpture on a console, bookshelf, mantel or tabletop and mixes especially well with traditional, Chinoiserie and collected
