This lovely-to-look-at Hanakago (花籠) basket AKA Ikebana-style basket was handcrafted in the manner of a Japanese flower basket which is traditionally used in the Japanese art of flower arranging. Handwoven using an over and under technique that produced the eye-catching zig zig pattern; photos were taken in the round to show all sides and any varying shades and nuances of color and weave. The arched tri-handle adds beauty and structural integrity. The basket’s frame is reinforced with long stakes on each side that extend into peg feet giving the basket the statuesque form as seen in the photos. The opening at the top is accented with a double wrapped split bamboo stake which provides structure.

An overall beautiful design that lends itself well to being used stylishly as a decorative accent filled with faux greens or blooms (sprays seen in photos are not included) on a center or console table. This beauty measures 19½” high including handle (11” high without the handle); 6¼” x 6½” W/D; interior10½” x 4¾” x 4½” H/W/D; weight 8 oz. Color is a rich tobacco and umber hue. There is no makers signature or mark. In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. There is a slight rocking motion on one side due to the fact that rattan, being an organic wood material, shrinks. This does not affect the utility or beauty of the basket at all and is not captured in the photos.

For a collector of Ikebana-style baskets, this beauty will be a great add to that collection or the perfect gift for someone who is.
