An exceptional Art Nouveau display cabinet by Louis Majorelle, masterfully crafted in France around 1900. This elegant cabinet perfectly illustrates the refined craftsmanship and organic design language that made Majorelle one of the foremost artists of the École de Nancy.
The cabinet features an asymmetrical composition, with a full-height glazed display compartment on the left and a stunning marquetry panel on the right. Inside the vitrine, the cabinet retains its original fabric lining, beautifully preserved and providing an authentic backdrop for displaying fine glass, porcelain, or objets d'art. The original glass shelves remain in place, enhancing its light and elegant appearance.
The true focal point is the magnificent signed marquetry panel, executed in a rich selection of carefully chosen veneers. The scene depicts a peaceful riverside landscape where a group of slender birch trees dominates the foreground. A gently flowing stream curves through the composition, while a rustic wooden footbridge stretches across the water and disappears into the distance. Through subtle variations in grain, tone, and natural figuring, Majorelle creates remarkable depth and atmosphere, transforming wood into a painterly landscape. The panel is discreetly signed "L. Majorelle", confirming its authenticity.
Beautiful hand-carved botanical motifs decorate the shaped apron beneath the marquetry panel, the upper gallery, and the lower frieze, while the cabinet stands on elegant tapered legs that give the piece a light architectural presence. Every element reflects the flowing lines and nature-inspired aesthetic that define the finest French Art Nouveau furniture.
This cabinet is presented great condition. Only a few minor veneer spots on the top highlighted in the pictures. It retains both original brass keys, its original hardware, and the original interior fabric, making it an outstanding collector's example.
Both highly decorative and practical, this cabinet offers the perfect balance between display space and artistic craftsmanship. Whether placed in a sophisticated interior or an important Art Nouveau collection, it is a piece that immediately commands attention. This piece has an attribution mark,
