The dramatic scene depicts the legendary battle between the Greeks and Amazons, with mounted warriors converging across an arched bridge as horses and figures tumble toward the river below. Richly colored and densely composed, the painting captures the extraordinary movement and theatrical drama associated with Rubens’ original composition.

This hand-painted oil on canvas appears to date to the 19th century and is presented in a substantial black ebonized wood frame. The painting retains a beautifully aged surface with visible canvas texture, brushwork and age-related craquelure, contributing considerably to its Old World character.
