Exceptional John Vesey neoclassical writing desk or library table, featuring a striking combination of stainless steel, bronze mounts and finely constructed hardwood drawers.
The desk embodies Vesey’s distinctive interpretation of Louis XVI neoclassicism, combining classical French-inspired details with luxurious modern materials.
The three-drawer case is supported by elegant fluted legs accented with bronze detailing. Fine gilt-bronze mounts include classical swag decoration, beaded drawer borders, decorative escutcheons, drawer pulls and bronze trim throughout.
The drawers feature quality hardwood construction with dovetailed joinery and fitted interiors. The center drawer retains its lock and key.
The desk measures an impressive 63” W × 33” D × 30.5” H, giving it excellent presence while remaining highly functional as a writing desk, library table or executive desk.
The original leather writing surface was replaced by a previous owner with a cork writing surface. This alteration is reflected in the price and provides an opportunity for a new owner to retain the cork or restore the top with leather of their choice.
The metal surfaces retain age-related patina, oxidation, spotting and wear consistent with vintage use. The desk has intentionally been left unpolished and unrestored, allowing the next owner or collector to determine the preferred level of conservation.
