Elevate your space with this striking antique Chinese Hand-Stained and Gilt Dragon Cabinet. Its exquisite craftsmanship makes it a standout statement piece. It features three bold, intricately carved, gilt and polychrome-stained imperial dragon motifs on the front and is perfect for adding a touch of Dynasty-inspired elegance and allure to your home.
The cabinet is a 19th-century (~1880s) polychrome-stained and gilt Chinese black-lacquered wood dressing or jewelry box featuring an intricately carved imperial dragon motif. It includes two top compartments with a dragon across the drawer front, the main cabinet doors with a gilt imperial dragon across the doors (with the brass hardware) covering four inner drawers, and another full dragon-carved drawer at the bottom. Inside the two main doors are four drawers highlighted with wild irises on the drawer fronts and inner door panels. All are stained in red, purple, green, brown and gilt.
The Qing (pronounced CHING) Dynasty, was a Manchu-led imperial dynasty of China which existed from 1644 to 1912. The Qing flag was a flying dragon which is celebrated on this chest.
Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers and are a spiritual and cultural symbol that represents prosperity and good luck, as well as representing a rain deity that fosters harmony.

Due to the cabinet’s age, there is some wear to cabinet feet and here and there on the cabinet itself (see detailed photos). Some minor loss to lacquer at top back. The left side top had come loose and had been re-glued. Both doors to the main cabinet are slightly bowed. One door droops when open but fits well closed. All brass pulls and hinges are tight and work well. Wear consistent with age and use. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. less
