Gangkofner is one of the most important industrial designers of glass. He designed numerous objects and collaborated with companies such as the Lamberts glassworks in Waldsassen, Peill & Putzler, Hessenglaswerke, and Erco Lighting. His distinctive glass style significantly shaped the design possibilities for glass in the 1950s and 60s. A particular characteristic of his work during the influential 1950s was his thick-walled, asymmetrical glass objects. The forms in these pieces were often very dynamic.
