A striking large-format Carolina Parrots / Carolina Parakeets from the Princeton Audubon Limited Edition, a limited-edition modern reproduction of one of John James Audubon’s most celebrated images from The Birds of America. The composition depicts the now-extinct Carolina Parakeet (Psittacus carolinensis) in a lively gathering, brilliantly colored in vivid greens, yellows, reds, and deep blue-green tones.
This example is numbered 1048/1500. The lower left side reproduces the original attribution “Drawn from Nature Published by John J. Audubon, F.R.S.E., M.W.S.” The lower right bears the embossed blind stamp of the Princeton Audubon Limited Edition, noting the edition limit of 1500, alongside the historic credit line “Engraved, Printed, Coloured by R. Havell & Son, London."
Custom-framed in a wide neutral mat and a substantial antiqued gold wood frame, giving the piece the scale and presence associated with Audubon’s iconic bird imagery. In excellent condition.
