Each paneled door incorporates two densely punched metal panels worked in repeating concentric rosette and radiating geometric motifs. Behind the doors, the open cupboard interior retains the straightforward utility of American country furniture, offering generous storage within a footprint only 15 inches deep.

The appeal of this pie safe lies in its restrained vernacular construction, particularly pleasing proportions, and remarkably well-preserved punched-tin panels. Tall corner stiles continue directly into square feet, while framed side panels, a horizontally boarded back, simple interior shelving, and the shallow scalloped apron are characteristic of practical late 19th-century American country furniture.

Of particular interest is the original finish on the four punched-tin panels. Close examination reveals a yellow-ochre ground beneath the copper-toned surface and protective clear finish. At a slightly loose panel edge, the layered finish continues beneath the surrounding woodwork, indicating that the tins were decoratively finished before installation. The punched openings remain crisp and free of later paint buildup.
