Lovely original … Read more A fine octagonal black lacquer Japanned box of sought after “melon” form, in this case with concave sections. Lovely original antique surface decorated with delicate gilt scenes, landscapes and figures, the gilding rubbed in places revealing the dark red undercoat which gives added dimension and interest to the piece. Little carved paw feet support the base, gilded in the front, lacquered in the back. Ca. early 19th century. Good antique condition with expected surface wear, some shallow frits to the lacquer joints of the ribbing, artisanal irregularities. Interior is very clean with notable sheen.
