The continuous, rounded backrest, the clearly defined struts, and the understated lines combine to create a formally cohesive and calmly proportioned piece of seating furniture. Historical Context: Armchairs of this design originated in the 1920s and 1930s as work and desk chairs for offices, government buildings, and private studies. The semi-circular backrest offered back and arm support in a single, continuous element, combining seating comfort with a robust, workshop-style construction. Such chairs were mass-produced by furniture and chair manufacturers and represented the increasingly functional design of offices and workspaces during that era. Features – Continuous, semi-circular backrest and armrests made of molded or mortised oak with a visibly pronounced grain – Sled-like base construction with lateral base rails that connect the leg pairs and give the chair additional stability. Design: Formally, the chair stands between late Reform style and Art Deco: The construction is clearly visible, the frame is clearly structured, and ornamentation has been largely omitted. The rounded backrest forms the only sweeping accent within an otherwise rectilinear, functional basic structure. Proportion and lines follow the logic of use as a work chair, not representation. Function: Formerly: work and desk chair in offices, offices, and private studies. Today: still usable as a desk chair, as well as a standalone piece of furniture in the living room, hallway, or dining room. Dimensions: Overall height: 88 cm; Seat height: 55 cm; Width: 57 cm; Depth: 45 cm. Material and condition: Frame made of solid oak. Seat upholstered, cover in cognac brown. Well preserved with age-related signs of wear, stable and in good condition for its age. See less
