Modeled before vibrant flowering tree bocage on rustic, hand-painted rocky bases, this rare pair bears the molded scroll banner mark for "WALTON" on the reverse of the bases. John Walton (active c. 1785–1839) was one of the most celebrated potters of the pre-Victorian era, and his marked figures are highly prized by collectors for their charming folk-art quality and distinctive bocage.

Finished in rich polychrome overglaze enamels, the sheep feature hand-painted iron-red markings and textured clay detailing to simulate fleece. Perfect as a symmetrical mantelpiece statement or styled into a traditional bookshelf display.

Overall in very good antique condition, presenting beautifully with vibrant enamels and typical light glaze crazing consistent with 200-year-old earthenware. In the interest of full transparency, one figure has a small, minor chip on the lower back edge of the green rocky base. The other figure has a small section of a leaf missing on the reverse side of the bocage. Neither of these minor imperfections is visible from the front or detracts from the stunning visual presentation of the pair. No evidence of professional restoration.

Each figure measures about 4.5 inches wide by 6 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches deep.
