The print depicts a French Marshal mounted on horseback in elaborate ceremonial military dress, with a grand architectural setting in the background. The finely detailed hand coloring, vivid blue and red uniform, elaborate gold embellishments, and beautifully rendered horse make this a particularly striking example of early French popular printmaking.

The print bears the printed inscription “ÉPINAL: chez Pellerin, Imprimeur-Libraire.” Pellerin of Épinal was one of the most important publishers of popular illustrated prints in France.
