An English brass postal scale on its original hardwood base, of the type that sat on desks and in post … Read more An English brass postal scale on its original hardwood base, of the type that sat on desks and in post offices when postage was reckoned by the half-ounce. The equal-arm beam is cast with a shapely pierced standard, and the fittings are engraved Made in England and Warranted Accurate. Retains the original square letter platform, the round brass weighing pan, and three matching brass weights in ½ oz, 1 oz, and 2 oz. Lovely uncleaned patina throughout. A handsome working object for a desk, a library shelf, or a study.

Exact age is unknown, but clues point to an early 20th century make, before England's switch to grams for their postal service but after the 1890 mandate to include country of origin. See less
