A handsome mid-nineteenth-century American edition of Byron's complete works, published in Philadelphia by Henry Carey Baird in 1854 — complete in eight volumes, bound here in four. Each volume is bound in full leather over raised bands, with gilt-ruled spine compartments and gilt-lettered "BYRON'S WORKS" labels, and finished with marbled endpapers and edges.
The front free endpaper of one volume carries a period ownership inscription, "Anna Lapsley, Dec. 25th 1855," recording the set as a Christmas gift given the year after its publication.
