Made in Italy, the substantial covered tureen is covered in layers of dimensional blue, periwinkle and violet flowers, surrounded by large sculpted green leaves.

What drew me to this piece is just how unique it is. Rather than simply being decorated with flowers, the entire tureen becomes the hydrangea, with individually modeled blossoms creating wonderful texture and dimension from every angle. The coordinating ceramic ladle is especially charming, continuing the botanical design with a sculpted green leaf at the end of its handle.
The creamy white glazed interior makes it functional as serveware, while the wonderfully sculptural form is beautiful enough to leave displayed as a centerpiece when not in use. It's a fabulous example of the playful, highly decorative ceramic serveware coming out of Italy during the later 20th century.

Marked “Made in Italy” with an additional E2 production mark on the underside.
