Striking vintage mid-century amber art glass tazza or pedestal compote, attributed to the Italian Empoli glassmaking tradition, circa 1960s–1970s.
The elegant form features a broad, shallow amber glass bowl elevated on a beautifully sculpted spiral-twist pedestal stem and substantial circular foot. The varying thickness of the glass creates wonderful shifts in color, ranging from pale golden amber through rich honey and cognac tones.
Particularly noteworthy is the substantial construction. Unlike more delicate stemmed glass, this piece weighs approximately 1.4 pounds, giving it an impressive weight and presence.
The twisted optic stem is the focal point of the design, catching and refracting light through the heavy amber glass. Its restrained form and warm coloration make it equally suited to Mid-Century Modern, Italian Modern, Hollywood Regency or contemporary interiors.
Beautiful displayed on its own as an art-glass object or used as a compote for fruit, sweets or decorative objects.
At 7.5 inches in diameter, this is a particularly versatile smaller-scale pedestal piece. Traditionally used for serving desserts or confections, it would be beautiful styled with pastries, chocolates, fruit or candies. It also makes a striking decorative object for displaying jewelry, candles, seasonal accents or other collected treasures. This piece weights 1.4 lbs. This piece's hue makes it a stunning piece for Fall / Autumn decor.
The simple circular form paired with the ornate twisted pedestal allows the piece to work beautifully in traditional, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Grandmillennial and collected interiors.
A lovely piece displayed on its own and especially beautiful when incorporated into a collection of vintage amber, peach or colored glassware.
