This highly decorative piece is executed in a soft lavender ground with dramatic white applied relief figures, creating a striking sculptural contrast.
The body of the jug is richly modeled with a dense figural composition in high relief, including military figures arranged in an animated battle scene. The dimensional white decoration stands prominently from the lavender-colored body, giving the piece a strong neoclassical and historical character. Additional molded ornament appears near the upper portion of the jug, and the curved handle is integrated into the overall sculptural design.
The underside bears a black printed heraldic “PATENT” mark along with the handwritten number 116. An accompanying collector’s identification label attributes the jug to Samuel Alcock, circa 1830–1859, and identifies the subject as Napoleon and the Battle of Acre, 1799. The label further suggests that the jug may date to approximately 1849, possibly produced in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the battle.
