This substantial antique Elkhart Brass Manufacturing Co. 2½-gallon soda-acid fire extinguisher retains much of its original operating hardware, including the internal bottle holder, glass acid bottle, stopper, exterior hose and discharge nozzle. Constructed primarily from copper and brass, it features the highly decorative embossed “The Elk Hart” stag-head plaque, period operating instructions, and naturally developed patina. An excellent early American firefighting collectible for firehouse, industrial, Americana, or occupational-history displays.

Design Details: Riveted/seamed copper cylinder; domed shoulder; brass upper cage and fittings; embossed Elk Hart stag-head identification plaque; large charging/operating instruction plate; carrying handle; side-mounted hose and nozzle
Internal Components: Retains internal acid-bottle holder/cage, glass bottle, and stopper
Glass Bottle Markings: “Fill to Line” with bottom marking appearing “ALF. FE Co. / Made in U.S.A.”, consistent with an American LaFrance Fire Engine Co. soda-acid extinguisher bottle
Component Note: Bottle may be a period service/replacement component rather than original Elkhart Brass factory equipment
Stopple: Mushroom-shaped metal stopple, apparently lead, with substantial age-related oxidation/residue
