An antique late Victorian ladies’ guard chain and Illinois pocket watch ensemble, circa 1890–1900. The double rope guard chain is gold filled and fitted with its original adjustable engraved rectangular slide and heavy dog clip swivel clasp.
Suspended from the chain is an Illinois Watch Company hunter case pocket watch with a mechanical movement. The case features high relief Victorian foliate and floral scrollwork engraving with a solid back and swing out case construction designed to protect the movement. The watch case measures approximately 44 mm and the complete ensemble weighs approximately 75 grams.
The chain is stamped “1/20 12K G.F.” on the clasp, indicating gold filled construction. No gold content hallmark was identified on the watch case. The combination retains its substantial Victorian character and decorative period detailing.

Chain measures 29.5" and weighs 37 grams. Complete ensemble weighs approximately 75 grams. The chain is stamped “1/20 12K G.F.” on the clasp. No gold content hallmark was identified on the watch case. The Illinois pocket watch is numbered “807355” on the interior of the case. Additional markings include handwritten “668” on the inner metal rim near the movement and “B839Y,” a historical service inscription etched nearby. less
