A striking signed and numbered “Cheetah Woman” serigraph by American artist and fashion illustrator David Croland, featuring a glamorous blonde woman posed with two dramatically rendered leopards.
Created in Croland’s unmistakable fashion-illustration aesthetic, the composition combines fluid linework with a sophisticated palette of metallic gold, camel, cream, black, vivid green and jewel-like red accents. The oversized geometric earring, sweeping blonde hair and richly patterned leopards capture the glamorous excess and high-fashion sensibility associated with the 1980s.
“Cheetah Woman” was commissioned by Marilyn R. Goldberg of Marigold Enterprises in connection with a charity fundraising project. This example is hand-signed in pencil by David Croland at the lower right and individually numbered 105/300 in pencil at the lower left.
The work is beautifully presented under glass with a wide neutral mat, fine metallic inner trim and a substantial glossy black frame finished with gold-tone edging. The reverse retains a vintage Castle Art Company label from Baltimore and Ocean City, Maryland.
An exceptional statement piece for a collector of David Croland, vintage fashion illustration, 1980s art and glamorous figurative works. Its dramatic scale and sophisticated neutral-and-gold palette make it particularly well suited to Hollywood Regency, Postmodern, Art Deco Revival, maximalist and contemporary interiors.
Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. The artwork itself presents beautifully. The frame exhibits minor age-appropriate surface wear, including a small scuff to the lower black frame. The paper backing has a tear/puncture on the reverse, as photographed, which does not affect the artwork or its appearance when displayed. Please review photographs for additional condition details.
