1920s French hand-worked iron hall tree with revolving hooks, rose appliques, and an umbrella or cane corral.
Created as functional entry-hall furniture, this freestanding coat and hat stand combines scrolling Art Nouveau floral lines with the stronger symmetry and geometric structure associated with French Art Deco ironwork.
The upper arrangement features twisted circular rails, numerous scrolling hooks and dimensional roses assembled from individually shaped metal petals. Its open lower corral can accommodate walking sticks, canes or umbrellas.
The upper hook assembly swivels around the center post and lifts off at the slip-fit connection. This intentional two-piece construction makes the stand substantially easier to move and ship.

What Makes It Special
◆ Uncommon revolving upper assembly
◆ Sculptural layered rose decorations
◆ Hand-twisted circular iron rails
◆ Multiple coat, hat, scarf and handbag hooks
◆ Lower umbrella and walking-stick corral
◆ Substantial 25-pound workshop-made construction
The irregular hammering, shaped edges and coarse concealed welds are consistent with individually fabricated ornamental ironwork rather than cast or modern flat-pack production. The center post is heavy hollow tubing, so the piece should not be interpreted as entirely solid iron.
Provenance
Acquired from an elite Palm Beach, Florida estate. According to the longtime auctioneer, the stand was believed to have been handcrafted in France and transported by ship during the 1920s.
This account is oral estate provenance and has not been independently documented. No maker’s mark or French country stamp was found.
Pieces of this type would most likely have been supplied through a decorative-arts gallery, European importer, architect or interior decorator rather than an ordinary mass-market department store.
Condition
Good antique condition with a refreshed black finish. Minor wear, scratches, surface variation and oxidation remain consistent with age and use.
The concealed junctions display coarse workshop welds and possible old reinforcement. Hammer marks, uneven edges and small surface impressions are part of the handmade construction. Interior oxidation remains visible inside the open center tube.
Please review the detailed photographs, particularly the swivel connection, underside welds and hand-worked surfaces.
The scrolling hooks have open pointed ends typical of period construction. Delicate garments may be best placed on hangers before being suspended from the stand.
Styling
Position this hall tree as functional sculpture in an Old World foyer, French-inspired entryway, château-style dressing room, historic home, boutique, studio or designer mudroom. The black iron creates a strong architectural silhouette while the roses soften the piece with romantic floral detail.
Free insured shipping is included. The stand separates into two components for safer packing and straightforward reassembly.
