An iconic Sibast No. 8 armchair designed by Danish cabinetmaker Helge Sibast in 1953 and produced by Sibast Furniture in Denmark.
Celebrated for its remarkably architectural silhouette, the No. 8 combines a sculptural scissor-form frame with dramatically angled supports, a floating seat and a radiating spindle back. The curved, upholstered oxbow crest flows gracefully into hand-shaped teak armrests, creating a chair that is striking from every angle. Slender tapered legs and warm, beautifully grained teak lend the piece an elegant visual lightness, while its black upholstery provides a crisp graphic contrast.
Both original manufacturer’s labels remain present: the inset brass “Sibast Furniture — Made in Denmark” plaque and the round Danish Furnituremakers’ Control medallion. These surviving marks authenticate its Danish manufacture and distinguished provenance.
Equally compelling as a dining host chair, desk chair or sculptural occasional chair, this is a collectible example of postwar Scandinavian design—expressive enough to stand alone yet refined enough to complement both modern and collected interiors.
The chair is structurally sound and presents beautifully, with age-appropriate wear to the teak frame. The existing black upholstery shows surface wear and a small split along the front edge, visible in the photographs. Retaining its compelling original character, the chair may be enjoyed as found or reupholstered to create a fully customized statement piece.
Made in Denmark, circa 1950s–1960s
