A rare Danish desk by Gunnar Nielsen, made in quarter-sawn oak with a substantial floating top raised above the frame on small supports. The open space beneath the work surface gives the desk a light, architectural profile and emphasizes the long horizontal lines of the design.
Two suspended cabinets provide four drawers, with angled lower edges that act as integrated pulls. The upper drawers retain their keyholes, while a small brass pull on the left adds a subtle period detail. Slender rounded legs and an open central structure balance the generous scale.
The finished back makes the desk especially useful as a freestanding piece. Two long open bookshelves provide space for books, objects, or office materials, while the central section includes an open shelf above a drop-front cabinet with additional storage inside. This thoughtful rear arrangement gives the desk a strong presence from every angle rather than treating the back as a secondary surface.
The quarter-sawn oak has warm tonal variation, linear grain, and visible flecking throughout. This Gunnar Nielsen model was produced almost exclusively in teak, making the oak version particularly uncommon. Generous enough for daily work and unusually well considered on both sides, it is a distinctive example of Danish modern office design.
