A French art deco chandelier by Hubert Petitot (c. 1935) in nickel plated bronze or solid brass with four shades in clear frosted pressed glass.
Alexandre Petitot founded the bronze workshop in 1878, and his son Hubert took over around 1917. Initially wholesale manufacturers, they supplied high-end bronze fixtures paired with glass shades from premier makers like Verreries des Hanots, Muller Frères, and Degué. By the mid-1930s, the firm shifted to a streamlined, modernist style featuring opalescent bluish semi-crystal shades by Ezan.
This unsigned piece features an exclusive bowl designed for Petitot by Pierre d'Avesn, the artistic director of Verreries des Hanots, whose shades from this line were never signed. I show a picture of a Petitot product catalog representing a flush mount with an identical bowl.
The chandelier has a drop of 33,07 inches (84 cm) and a diameter of 26,77" (68 cm). It is in excellent condition. The fixture has been replated and the lamp is newly wired. It holds three American candelabra base sockets plus a standard one for the central bowl.
