A pair of Chinese blue and white glazed stoneware jars, each with a domed lid surmounted by a seated Buddhist lion, or foo dog, finial and painted with cloud scrollwork. The neck of each jar carries a Greek-key (key-fret) meander band above three lion-mask lugs at the shoulder. The body of each jar is hand-painted in cobalt blue with a pair of striding dragons chasing flaming pearls amid stylized clouds, above a cresting wave border at the base. The footring is unglazed, exposing the grey stoneware body; the interior is glazed.
Good condition. Glaze throughout has scattered firing pits and specks, with imperfections from the firing process, most noticeable at the shoulder lugs, lid rims, and footrings. No cracks, breaks, or restoration. Sold as a pair.
