Printed on handmade paper with richly textured surfaces and natural deckled edges, this impression is titled in pencil, signed by the artist, and designated "A/P" (Artist's Proof). While Road to Ketchikan was published in a numbered edition of 75 impressions, this example is an Artist's Proof, printed separately from the regular edition and traditionally retained by the artist. Artist's Proofs were produced in significantly smaller numbers than the standard edition and are especially prized by collectors.

Carol Summers is recognized as one of America's most influential color woodcut artists. He pioneered an innovative printmaking technique that combined transparent dyes with carved woodblocks, resulting in luminous, painterly compositions unlike traditional woodcuts.
