This lovely … Read more Antique, carved alabaster, round, lidded Jar adorned with a multi-flower micro mosaic on the center of the lid. This lovely Grand Tour style jar was likely a 1920s -1930s souvenir from Rome or Venice, which are known for its floral, smalti filato tessere (blown & cut glass tile) micro mosaics. The alabaster jar itself was likely produced in Volterra, Tuscany, the center of alabaster object production in Italy, and then sent on to Rome for finishing. The jar, made with creamy white, smooth alabaster has a squat round shape and a rounded edged, slightly domed lid, measures 2 3/4" in diameter and is 1 1/2" high. The mosaic shows a spray of petit flowers in white, pink and red, miniature daisies and small green leaves surrounded by a border of 2 lines of blue, a notched strip of white surrounded by green tiles. Sourced from an estate in Switzerland. A charming box to hold jewelry on a vanity, paper clips on a desk or pills at bedside. Makes a beautiful gift! See less
