Three chromolithographs after Geremia Discanno, each a long narrow frieze of winged amorini on a black ground, set in deep red and vermilion mats within ebonized moulded frames. The panels show cupids at work among beds and hanging drapery; cupids stringing flowers into garlands beside a laden goat cart; and a procession following a goat-drawn chariot, led by a satyr playing double pipes.
The plates reproduce the frieze of the Piccoli Amorini in the Casa dei Vettii at Pompeii, which came to light when the house was excavated in 1894–95. Geremia Discanno (1839–1907) spent much of his career copying Pompeian wall painting for the archaeological record, and his watercolours were issued in Naples as colour-printed plates. Captions cut from the original portfolio survive on the backing boards, reading DOMVS VETTIORVM, CASA DEI VETTII, POMPEI, and DERNIÈRES EXCAVATIONS. A framer's label on the reverse reads C. E.
