Paul Gilles
A large French 1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated bronze or solid brass holding 10 shades in molded-pressed glass. In the typical neo-classical art deco style of Paul Gilles. Gilles was a French designer with a factory and lighting shop at 27 rue Esquirol in Paris. The shades of this large chandelier were produced for Gilles by Degué the famous glass factory of David Guéron. All six panels the central bowl and the three side-shades are signed Gilles. Gilles made bronze is always of outstanding quality with very fine details. The chandelier is represented in the 1929 Gilles catalog. It has a height of 104 cm (41") and is 77,5 cm wide (30,5"). It's in very good condition. The original nickel layer shows some signs of wear consistent with age. The bronze color shines through the thin layer of nickel. Giving it a nice patina and overall 30s look. The chandelier comes newly wired. It's rewired with 7 American standard sockets and three US candelabra base ones.
