Bring a touch of charm to your home with this delightful 19th century English Staffordshire cottage pastille burner. Modeled as a quaint country cottage with winding steps, arched windows, and colorful hand-painted floral garlands, this whimsical piece captures the romantic spirit of Staffordshire pottery.
Originally designed to hold a small scented pastille ( similar to incense) the fragrant smoke would gently drift through the openings, creating the illusion of smoke rising from the chimney. Today they are treasured more for their appeal than original function. They make wonderful additions to a bookshelf, curio cabinet, or English country inspired interior.
The soft cream glaze is accented with hand--painted floral details and warm terra cotta chimneys, giving the piece wonderful depth and character. Equally at home in an English country or grandmillenial interior.
