Antique 19th C Staffordshire Blue Willow Meat Drainer Platter Insert
Made in Staffordshire, England c. 1830-1850.
Approx. ½" High x 11 ¾" Wide x 8 ½" Deep.
A wonderful example of early English blue and white transferware, this genuine 19th-century meat drainer features the iconic, romantic Chinoiseries Blue Willow pattern detailing the two flying doves, weeping willow tree, bridge, and pagodas. Originally designed to rest inside a matching 14-inch oval meat platter to separate juices, these pierced inserts have become highly sought-after, beautiful historical statement pieces for kitchen décor and wall displays.
The reverse features crisp, deep factory-impressed workshop stamps including size/pattern mold number "5" over batch code "01" and target platter sizing "14".
This piece is an authentic antique and shows signs of age. The front face features rich, vibrant cobalt blue glaze with strong contrast. The reverse side shows a visible structural hairline crack alongside minor, age-appropriate surface crazing and slight iron staining. There are no large chips or major edge losses. Please review all macro photographs carefully as they are considered part of the condition description. Normal wear from use and age.
