Offered is a set of 2 hand colored French School architectural engravings, "Appartements Privés de S.M. l'Impératrice au Palais des Tuileries" (The Private Apartments of Her Majesty the Empress at the Tuileries Palace). Decorated by M. F. Lefuel, Architect to H.M. the Emperor. Eugène Rouyer; F. Roux; Paul Sellier; Auguste Alexandre Guillaumot; Henri Sellier.
Publisher: Librairie polytechnique de J. Baudry, 1867. They are framed in a giltwood Louis XVI/Classicist style frame featuring a beaded accent lip, and multi tiered French matting with hand drawn corners. Documentation on rear.

One piece details a highly detailed neo-classical wall elevation featuring two large multi-pane windows looking out onto a park landscape, framing a central decorative arched mirror or boiserie panel topped with an ornamental crest. The other details French neoclassical and arabesque wall panel friezes, featuring intricate floral swags, columns, medallions, and urn motifs. The engravings feature intricate hand-coloring to accentuate the delicate blue tones, gilding, and architectural textures.
Project history:
The architectural prints of Hector-Martin Lefuel, publisher J. Baudry, and the Palais des Tuileries originate from the monumental 1870 publication Palais du Louvre et des Tuileries : motifs de décoration intérieure et extérieure. Emperor Napoleon III commissioned the massive unification of the Louvre Palace and the Palais des Tuileries. After the death of architect Louis Tullius Joachim Visconti in 1853, Lefuel took complete charge of the design, overseeing the exuberant Neo-Baroque exterior carvings and interior decorations. Lefuel hired pioneering photographer Édouard Baldus in 1855 to meticulously document every single sculpture, cornice, and facade on the active construction site. Baldus later converted these vast photographic archives into high-quality heliogravures (early photogravures), which were published in folios starting around 1869–1870 by the architectural publisher J. Baudry.
