The heavy crystal body is adorned with a brilliant light-catching hobnail pattern, creating dazzling reflections from every angle and giving the canister an unmistakable presence. Crowning the jar is an impressive domed sterling silver lid, lavishly hand hammered in a mesmerizing honeycomb pattern that shimmers beautifully in the light. At the center rests an applied armorial motif with monogram, lending the piece an aristocratic and deeply personal character.

The screw-on lid opens to reveal a thoughtfully engineered interior designed to preserve freshness. The inside of the lid retains its original shellacked wood or cork lining, a traditional feature used in fine antique humidors to create a tighter seal and maintain the condition of tobacco. Nestled inside the crystal body is a removable sterling silver inner bowl, a luxurious and highly unusual feature that speaks to the quality and expense of the original commission.

Measuring approximately 5.25 inches high, 4 inches wide, and 4 inches deep, and weighing a remarkable 1 pound 5 ounces overall, this is a weighty and beautifully made example that displays magnificently in a library, gentleman’s study, cigar room, or sophisticated bar setting. The rim, removable bowl, and lid are all struck with French Minerva hallmarks, confirming genuine French origin and high-grade .950 fine silver, a purer silver standard than traditional sterling. The silver content alone is substantial, with the inner bowl weighing approximately 83 grams and the lid an impressive 165 grams. Very good antique condition, a few small indents to the lid and a couple of very small barely visible flea bit chips to the hobnail crystal.
