Before glass became the standard for bottled water, Europe’s finest mineral springs relied on durable salt-glazed stoneware vessels like this one. Produced for Georg Kreuzberg of Ahrweiler, this authentic late nineteenth-century bottle bears the impressed Apollinaris-Brunnen seal and original merchant markings from one of Germany’s most celebrated mineral water producers.
Its restrained silhouette, softly speckled buff glaze, and decades of earned patina speak to the enduring appeal of honest utilitarian objects. Once designed for everyday commerce, it now reads as sculptural—equally compelling displayed alone or grouped with antique crocks, confiture jars, and early European stoneware.
Collectors value these bottles not only for their craftsmanship but also for their connection to the history of Apollinaris mineral water, which became one of Europe’s most recognized exports during the Victorian era.
