A striking pair of late-19th-century English silver-plated candlesticks by Hawksworth, Eyre & Co. of Sheffield.
The pair features dramatic spiral-fluted stems rising from broad, swirling bases with beaded borders. Their substantial scale and sculptural silhouette make them especially handsome on a mantel, dining table, console or library cabinet.
The original silver plate has developed a rich, naturally aged patina that has intentionally been left unpolished. The darker surface beautifully emphasizes the fluting, contours and century-old character of the pair.
Each candlestick bears the HE & Co. maker’s mark and EP mark, indicating electroplate. They are offered for their age, known English maker, uncommon design and decorative presence rather than precious-metal content.
