Crafted in France circa 1870, the table is built of solid walnut and features a rectangular top inset with a rich burgundy velvet writing surface framed by a brass molding and a finely hand-carved foliate border.

A single oak-lined frieze drawer, constructed with hand-cut dovetails, slides smoothly beneath the top and provides convenient storage for writing implements, stationery, or personal accessories. The deeply carved gadrooned apron is embellished with repeating foliate motifs, while the table is raised on four boldly turned barley-twist legs joined by an elaborate H-form stretcher composed of turned and spiral-turned stretchers centered by a turned finial. Rounded bun feet complete the well-balanced silhouette, reflecting the robust architectural character associated with the Louis XIII style.
